Business phone service / Auckland, New Zealand
Business phone service for Auckland businesses leaving copper behind.
Auckland businesses are moving off copper as lines are withdrawn across the country. That is a good moment to replace an old phone system, but it also means checking every alarm, lift and EFTPOS line, and planning how staff reach 111 if the power goes. Texwan sets up hosted phone systems remotely and handles those details first.
New Zealand geographic numbers such as 09 are added where available from the carrier providing the service, and existing numbers are ported where they can be. We work remotely and do not claim a New Zealand office.

Architecture and Remediation Directives
- List every copper line and what is connected to it before any change.
- Agree a power-cut plan: battery backup for key equipment and mobile phones as a fallback.
- Give each technician an app extension and use a dispatch queue.
- Set 111 to dial directly from every phone.
04 / Vendor-Neutral Verification Checklist
Vendor-Neutral Verification Checklist
Three checks you can run yourself, with or without us.
- Find your alarm and lift lines and ask their suppliers whether they work without copper.
- Ask staff how they would call 111 in a power cut.
- Call the dispatch line and confirm it reaches the on-call person.
Legacy and odd setups
Old phone systems in Auckland? We can work with them.
Auckland offices often have older Panasonic, NEC or Avaya systems on copper. We can keep them working on SIP through a gateway while users move to hosted service.
Country notes
Phone rules and practicalities in New Zealand
| Topic | What to know |
|---|---|
| Emergency calls | 111 is the emergency number. VoIP and fibre phones stop in a power cut without backup, and the 111 Contact Code requires providers to give vulnerable consumers a way to reach 111 in a power cut. (Commerce Commission) |
| Copper withdrawal | Copper lines are being withdrawn in parts of New Zealand, with consumer protections set by the Commerce Commission. Alarm and lift lines need checking before a move. (Commerce Commission) |
| Local numbers | New Zealand geographic numbers, such as 09 for Auckland, where available from the carrier providing the service. |
| Hardware | We confirm each model is suitable for sale and connection in New Zealand before quoting, and order DECT handsets for the local band. |
| Power and plugs | New Zealand mains is 230 V with Type I plugs, the same as Australia. Power over Ethernet phones avoid the plug question. |
| Shipping | Hardware ships from the United States. Import duties, taxes and customs fees may apply on arrival and depend on the shipping terms we agree in the quote. |
This is general information, not legal advice. Rules change, so we confirm current requirements for your setup before quoting.
How it works
Remote setup, phones shipped ready to use
- Review. Send us your current bill or a list of numbers, users and sites. We map extensions, call flows and anything unusual.
- Build. We build the system for your country’s dial plan and emergency numbers and program each phone (Yealink, Yeastar, Grandstream or Sangoma), choosing models that suit local power, plugs and radio rules.
- Ship. Phones ship from the US pre-configured and labeled. Import duties, taxes and customs clearance depend on the destination and the shipping terms, which we agree in the quote.
- Port and support. Existing numbers are ported only where the country’s rules and the carriers allow, on a date you approve. Support is remote, with every request answered within one business day.
